Şenay Akın is a jewellery designer and artist based in Istanbul. Graduated in Photography from the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in 1998, along with the career of photographer she followed a childhood dream and started taking private lessons from able artisans of the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul, where antique traditions in goldsmithing survived from centuries.
In the 2003, she abandoned the career of photographer and get a detailed training in jewellery design, gemmology and stone-setting in the “Scuola d’Arte e Mestieri di Vicenza” in Vicenza, Italy. A one month apperenticeship in the studio of Padovan jewellery artist Alverta Vita contributed a lot in the artistic perseption and development of the young artist. When she finished her studies returned to Istanbul where she established her jewellery atelier and continues creating her work with very personal approach based on collected impressions of childhood landscapes, photographer’s education and fairy tales.
Along with her creative production she teaches jewellery techniques and design and collaborates with educational institutions for semestral projects.
