Nancy Pollock - Sculptor, Mosaic Artist

My Mother, Myself features a vanity mirror that is fractured on one side. I believe that the sculpture’s feeling is elegant, yet simultaneously rather cold. The skirt is dazzling but dangerous due to the sharp points. There is an apple from the Garden of Eden on the back and a serpent on the shoulder, an aspect, which holds many meanings and interpretations. Growing into womanhood is a unique experience for every female, as it was for my mother in Kansas City. As many, I believed I escaped my mother’s life view by fleeing to New York at the age of 23. Of course, I came to realize that all women are our mothers, dating back to Eve.
