Lynne is a jewellery designer and maker based in Glaisdale. She creates vibrant contemporary jewellery using silver, enamel and hand dyed anodised aluminium. She also creates panels in copper and enamel and runs courses in enamelling in and in the exciting new medium of art clay silver. In common with most jewellers all her scrap metal is carefully saved and sent for reprocessing and many of the materials she uses are infinitely recycle-able.
Lynne studied Interior Design at the University of Lincolnshire & Humberside in Hull as a mature student. She took an MA in Design at the University of Lincoln while teaching design history and eventually left the part time teaching to concentrate on her own work. She received an -Arts Council Grant to develop ‘Precious Land’ a collection of enamelled jewellery inspired by her local landscape. She has exhibited widely throughout the uk.
Lynne works in a variety of materials and techniques but enamel is her favourite. It is basically a very finely ground coloured glass that is applied to the surface of metal, usually silver or copper, and fired in a kiln at around 800°C. The enamel is built up in thin layers, firing each layer in turn. She says it offers such a wide range of applications that there will always be something new to learn while she is working. Both her jewellery and panels can be inspired by a moment in time ; the way the light catches the field opposite her studio or the wind moving the stems of grass in her garden. She is constantly sketching and taking photographs from which she develops her ideas. Her work can range from impressionistic to abstract depending on the subject matter, her mood and response to it.
